At first, the answer might seem simple. Lube is lube, right? Not quite. Water-based gels, silicone lubes, hybrid formulas, powders, creams and butters all feel and perform differently. The right choice also depends on what you are planning. Bating, dildo play, anal sex and fisting each place different demands on a lubricant, and the right texture can make a session smoother, more comfortable and more pleasurable.
Cleaning up is another subject our customers regularly ask about. Some lubes disappear with a quick rinse, while others need more attention on the body, toys, sheets or fetish gear.

What Is the Best Lubricant for Anal Sex?
A thick water-based anal lube is a practical starting point because it is easy to clean and broadly compatible. Silicone and hybrid formulas provide longer-lasting glide for extended sessions.
Water-Based Lubricant: The All-Purpose One
Water-based lube works well for hand jobs, anal sex, dildos, sleeves, strokers and torso masturbators. It is the broadest default for mixed toy collections. A thick version can also work well for fisting, just add more when the glide fades or feels sticky.

Silicone Lubricant: Long-Lasting Glide
Silicone lube is very slick and usually lasts longer than a standard water-based formula. It suits extended anal play, larger toys and fisting sessions with fewer pauses.
Water- and silicone-based lubes can be used with latex condoms. Oil-based products can weaken latex. Silicone lube does not automatically belong on every silicone dildo. Many toy manufacturers require water-based lube for silicone products, so check both labels.

Hybrid lube combines a water base with silicone ingredients. It often feels fuller and lasts longer than the all-purpose water-based lube, without the heavy feel of pure silicone. It still contains silicone, so check toy compatibility.

What Is the Best Lube for Fisting?
A fisting lube should coat the hand and anal opening evenly, stay in place and creatre a “cushioning” effect. Thick water-based gels offer easier clean-up. Silicone and hybrid lubes focus on lasting glide. Powders create a large quantity, while creams and butters provide a dense layer.
Use plenty from the beginning and reapply before the lube becomes sticky. More lube reduces friction, but it does not replace warm-up, communication or patience.
Every powdered lube has its own mixing ratio, resting time and storage period. J-Lube, Fuck & Fist Powder and other formulas should not be prepared from one shared recipe. Follow the exact directions on the packaging.

Creams, butters and shortening-style products stay in place for a long time. Crisco, oil-based Boy Butter Original and petrolatum-style products should not be used with latex condoms or latex gear.

How to Clean Lube From the Body
Remove excess lube with a soft towel or paper towel before showering. Water-based lube and mixed powder usually rinse away with lukewarm water.
Silicone, oil and petrolatum leave a stronger film. Wipe first, use a mild cleanser on the surrounding skin and rinse the anal area with lukewarm water. Do not scrub.
The inside of the rectum does not need soap, shower gel, salt or disinfectant. Most remaining lube leaves naturally. A post-session douche is usually unnecessary, and repeated rinsing can irritate the rectal lining, so just let your body do its thing.
J-Lube has a useful clean-up trick. Its label says that a small amount of table salt on the hands helps remove the final slippery residue. Rinse afterwards. Keep salt away from the inside of the body and irritated skin.
How to Wash Sheets, Jockstraps and Play Sheets?
Place a large waterproof play sheet over the bed, then add a washable cotton sheet or towel on top. The upper layer feels more comfortable and prevents bare vinyl from sticking to the skin. Check the protector material before using oil or petrolatum. Latex sheets should stay away from oil-based products.
Wipe or scoop up pooled J-Lube before adding water. Water makes a spill even more slippery. Water-based lube and J-Lube on fabric can usually be rinsed or soaked, then machine-washed with normal detergent according to the care label.
Silicone, hybrid, Crisco and butter-style stains need pretreatment. Blot or scrape away the excess. Work a small amount of liquid laundry detergent or grease-cutting dish soap into the stain, rinse it, then machine-wash at the warmest temperature allowed by the label. Dish soap belongs on the stain, not in the machine. Do not use the dryer until the stain is gone, since heat can set a greasy mark.
For fabric jockstraps, use a mesh laundry bag and choose a gentle cycle at the care-label temperature.
Wipe the waterproof sheet with the cleaner recommended by its maker and let it dry fully before folding. Only machine-wash a vinyl or latex play sheet when its care label clearly allows it.
How to Clean Toys, Leather and Latex Gear?
Wipe excess lube from toys before washing. Clean waterproof toys with warm water and mild, fragrance-free soap or toy cleaner. Wipe electronic and non-waterproof products according to their manual. Rinse masturbators promptly and let the inner canal dry fully.
Silicone and hybrid residue may need a second wash. Oil and Crisco should be wiped away before washing.
Blot leather and use a cleaner made for that type of leather. Do not soak it or place it near heat. Grease can darken or stain leather, so valuable gear may need professional cleaning.
Hand-wash latex in lukewarm water with a latex-approved cleaner. Rinse well and air-dry away from sunlight and heat. Do not scrub or wring.
